Villas in Corfu
Corfu has a softer, greener Mediterranean character than many travellers expect from Greece. Small coastal villages, olive-covered slopes and sheltered bays make it particularly well suited to private villas where the view, terrace and relationship with the water are central to the stay.
The north-east coast
The legacy Villamania material repeatedly mentioned villages such as Nissaki, Agni and Kassiopi. Their value is not that they are interchangeable resort names, but that each creates a slightly different relationship between hillside homes, the coast, local restaurants and small harbours.
For a villa holiday, that local scale can be a strength: the day does not have to revolve around a large resort complex.
Boat days and hidden pieces of coast
The old Corfu text also emphasised the importance of the sea itself — small harbours, boats and stretches of coast that are easier to understand from the water. That remains a strong part of the island-villa experience.
A house with good access to a bay or marina can therefore be more interesting than one that simply has the most dramatic panorama.
Privacy versus convenience
Many Corfu villas sit above the water rather than directly on it. The trade-off is familiar: elevation can improve the view and privacy, while a village location can make restaurants and everyday services easier.
For families, road access and practical movement around the island deserve as much attention as the pool or the number of bedrooms.
Corfu beyond the villa
Corfu’s appeal also comes from layers of history and architecture that distinguish it from a purely beach destination. A private home works best as a base for that wider island experience — coast, villages, local food and time on the water.
The aim is not to fill every day with excursions, but to have the option.
